FCE Listening Practice

FCE Listening tests whether you can follow extended speech at B2 level — interviews, lectures, conversations on a wide range of topics. About 40 minutes, 30 questions across four parts. Each recording is played twice.

FCE Listening: part by part

  1. Part 1 — Multiple Choice (8 questions): 8 short unrelated extracts. One question per extract, A/B/C.
  2. Part 2 — Sentence Completion (10 questions): a monologue (talk, lecture). Fill 10 gaps with a word or short phrase from the recording.
  3. Part 3 — Multiple Matching (5 questions): 5 short monologues on a related topic. Match each speaker to one of 8 statements.
  4. Part 4 — Multiple Choice (7 questions): one longer interview or conversation. 7 questions A/B/C.

Common FCE Listening mistakes

  • Part 2 answers are usually 1–3 words copied directly from the recording. Don't paraphrase — use the speaker's exact words.
  • Part 3 distractors share keywords across speakers. Listen for the speaker's overall point, not surface vocabulary matches.
  • On the second listen, focus on the questions you skipped. Don't re-confirm answers you're already sure of.
